Name: Count von Krolock Door: left, suffer with a curse Canon: Tanz der Vampire Canon Point: Post-Finale Age: Roughly 450 years old Appearance: Reference pic here History: Count Von Krolock spends a lonely and melancholy life in an old castle on the mountains, in the company of his son Herbert and his servant Koukol. The numbness and loneliness of his existence is interrupted only at the annual dance of the vampires when the undead come to life in the cemetery and the castle lives again, for one night, its former glory. In the course of the events narrated, Von Krolock leads to his castle the young Sarah, hoping to drink her blood at the ball and turn her into a vampire. His plans, however, are hampered by Professor Abronsius, decided to fight the plague of vampirism, and his assistant Alfred, who is in love with Sarah. Although the two manage to "rescue" Sarah during the Midnight Ball, she had already been turned by the Count. After several centuries, the Count and his coven emerge from hiding, with plans on living in plan sight amongst mortals in this new modern world. Personality: Positive Trait: Hospitality Krolock is hospitable, as shown by the way he welcomes Alfred and the professor into his home. Upon meeting the two would-be vampire hunters, Krolock proudly declares that he adores having guests, so please don't be shy. Especially with Drew Sarich's performance, the vampire seems genuinely pleased to have people visiting him, stating how much he enjoys having company. He gushes over the professor's intelligence and (in the French and Hamburg productions) Alfred's bravery, asking the professor to sign his book on vampire lore for him. He immediately ushers them into the house and insists that his home is theirs, and they should make themselves comfortable. He also provides them with a very grand bedroom to stay the night in, and has his servant bring them breakfast and tea in the morning. He only turns on the men after he discovers their plot to kill him. Which, quite frankly, is understandable; it is only natural that he would want to get revenge after their attempted murder of him. Negative Trait: Guilt Krolock feels an immense guilt for what he is, and the pain he's caused in the past. This is especially clear in his ballad, "Unstillbare Gier" (The Unquenchable Thirst). In it, Krolock recounts past lovers that he'd killed because of his insatiable thirst for blood. He talks about how he wishes he could be sated, for even a moment, but the hunger never leaves him alone. In a particular poignant line, he laments the death of a young soldier boy who he'd seduced and then killed. "That his pain didn't break my heart," Krolock says, "I will never forgive myself." He lets his guilt consume him to the point that it's implied that he buries the bodies of his victims -- or at least has tomb markers for them -- in his own private cemetery at his castle, so that he can visit and remember them. He hates himself for his need for blood, calling himself "nothing but a creature who crawls, and lies, and destroys all he loves." Negative Trait: Guarded He suffers from self-inflicted loneliness, brought on by his tendency to wall himself off from others as a defense mechanism. We can see this especially in Drew Sarich's portrayal of Krolock, where the personality he presents to others differs vastly from his more private, vulnerable moments. He presents an air of confidence in certain situations, but it feels practiced. Rehearsed. It is a show he puts on to earn the respect of others. He is able to give grand speeches, but when he is by himself, it is clear how lonely and uncertain of himself he truly he is. We see this also in "Totale Finsternis", where he is attempting to seduce his young love, Sarah. We see him move towards her and then shy away again when he feels in danger of getting too close to her. Negative Trait: Tempremental He also has a mercurial temperament. He is unable to stay on a specific subject for more than a few moments, and he tends to have sharp mood swings, shifting rapidly from "Welcome, gentlemen," to "Fear is my cloak, the night is my domain." When he visits his love Sarah at her window, one moment he is talking about how they are so close to being together, and then the next moment he gives a speech about how God is dead and no one seeks the Lord any longer. He can go from being genial and welcoming to brooding and depressed like someone flipped a switch in him. Powers and Abilities: Krolock possesses the power of mesmerism, or the ability to hypnotize mortals temporarily. He also seems to have some mild telepathy.
